Meet Mónica Ramos and female leadership

The founders of Clay, Musa, and Cryptomate discuss the challenges of female leadership in startups, highlighting the need for a different approach.

At the Startup Latam Festival in Santiago, Paula Monticelli (Cryptomate), Mónica Ramos (Musa), and María Ignacia Jofré (Clay) evaluated the current role of women in startups. They agreed that, despite progress, much remains to be done to achieve equitable female leadership in this sector.

Jofré pointed out that, although the issue of gender parity is on the agenda, the desired balance has not yet been achieved. According to the IDB and Finnovista, only 21% of fintechs in Chile have a woman as a founder. In contrast, Monticelli noted that the role of women has changed significantly, allowing them to lead without having to mimic masculine behaviors.

On the other hand, Mónica Ramos emphasized the positive influence of the public sector in promoting female leadership. She mentioned the “Female Factor” program from Startup Chile, which reduces co-payments for startups led by women. Therefore, this program represents a significant step toward equity.

Additionally, Ramos highlighted the urgent need for companies to intentionally include women in their leadership teams. Similarly, Varinka Farren stressed the importance of showcasing female role models in STEM to inspire more girls and women to pursue careers in these fields.

In conclusion, such dialogues and programs represent a crucial advancement toward gender parity in startup leadership. In this way, they drive positive and sustainable change in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, contributing to a more inclusive and balanced future.
